Emily Haviland | May/June 2024 Tour Dates
Dear Beloveds,
It’s been a couple of months since I wrote to you all! (So much for being a monthly newsletter, whoops! I will do better…) There’s some exciting stuff going on in Emily Havi-LAND that’s been a’brewin’ and I wanted to wait a bit to keep y’all on your toes, ya know?! So here we go:
May 2024 Emily Haviland Dates

Solo shows are on the horizon, with more to come later in the year! Emily Haviland (solo) will be playing at the following spots in the coming weeks:
I will be joined by the infamous Zachariah Hickman on bass, as he is hosting this lovely series of sets on his very own front porch. The local legend, Dennis Brennan, will be playing right after me, along with several great performers. This is a FREE show, and I’ll be playing a full set!
I will be joined by several other songwriters in a songwriter’s round for Campfire.
This is the year of “doing hard things”. (At least, that’s what I’ve dubbed it.) Full honesty here: I lost my full-time position last December and have been making ends meet through various contracting jobs at my second home, Berklee College of Music. With a contract nearing its end, I decided that it was the perfect opportunity for me to take advantage of not being tied down to a 9-5 for the 2024 summer. (Typically this is something that would spike my anxiety so high that I would become comatose in fetal position, but growth and evolution have somehow shifted this part of me, at least for now.) So while I continue to work on my next step of my professional arts administration-centered career, I figured I’d do a bunch of hard things that I never thought I’d do in my life. One of those things is going on the road with a nearly complete stranger. I was reached out to by Abigail about a month ago and was asked if I’d be interested in playing fiddle and singing background vocals for her CD release tour in the US Northeast and some midwest dates. When I got the email, I immediately talked to my partner, Chris, about it and was like “I think this is another one of those things that my soul is feeling drawn to”. In his loving way, Chris reminded me of the amount of sleep I need, but that I had his full support. I will hopefully learn how to function off of less sleep, because the time is NOW!
Here are the dates I will be joining this incredible Toronto-based folk songwriter, Abigail Lappel:
Songwriters Retreat | France
Yeah, so ummm, I’m going to France! Unknowingly, I booked my trip for July, right before the 2024 Olympics start. (I will be back in the states nearly two weeks before they start, so there’s that.) Crazy? Yes! Am I terrified of large crowds? Also, yes! Am I also scared of traveling internationally by myself to a country where I don’t speak the language? YUP! But again, in the vein of saying “yes” to hard things, I was approached by a colleague who asked if I was interested in this songwriter’s retreat opportunity. (This was the second or third time I was approached, always replying to the ask with a “nope, but thanks”.) Again, I talked to my partner after thinking on it internally, and said to him “my heart-soul is telling me I should do this”. So I listened, and I booked a ridiculously expensive ticket to Paris, and Chris supported me. I’ve also made him promise to be on standby to take my call in case I need to cry if I get lost. Thanks, Chris!
The first week, I will be in the countryside, right outside of Toulouse, writing songs all day long with several other songwriters, mostly from Brooklyn. We’ll be in a big house, workshopping and fellowshipping together. I hope to return Stateside with more songs in my back pocket for a second record. (Already have about four newbies for that one!)
The last four nights, I will be meeting my beautiful mother in Paris, and I plan to basically eat our way through the city. Dinner reservations have been made (because olympics and summer in Paris) and I’m learning phrases in French so that I can get us around.
“Not Who You Think” Kickstarter Gifts
For those of you that signed up for a CD & lyrics, about 80% of those have been sent out. Because of cost, I’ve had to do this in phases. If you believe that you are one of those people and you have NOT received the gift, please let me know and we will remedy that!
“Not Who You Think” Full Album LISTENING
The stats have continued to come in for the album, and they’re increasingly surprising! Emily Haviland currently has about 1500 monthly listeners, which is pretty impressive considering there was no paid advertising for the album. But if you could do me a solid and add your favorite song or two to one of your playlists, that’d be amazing. This helps indie artists like me get noticed by the big wigs at the streaming services. If they see my songs getting added to listener playlists, there’s more incentive for them to add me to one of their official playlists, which could bring in many more listeners.

That is all for now, friends.
