Update
Well, that was an unexpected/expected twist! It’s been since June since you last heard from yours truly, and what a journey it has been. The summer was filled with my first multi-week tour with Abigail Lapell and a beautiful songwriter’s retreat in the countryside of France and subsequently there was a week in Paris, some of which my mother joined for. It was magical and a little stressful at times, but these life/career experiences were the greatest gift I could have given myself whilst unemployed.
I have been writing on and off since the record was released in February, and I hope to add a fresh-off-the-press song to my set for the Lady Hang show series!

The Lady Hang Series: Like many other Boston folk acts with phenomenal personnel pairings, you can trace this group’s beginnings to Club Passim’s campfire. festival. During the 2016 Memorial Day campfire., Katie Martucci of The Ladles, Isa Burke & Ellie Buckland of Lula Wiles, Aurora Birch, and Rachel Sumner of Twisted Pine came together to close out the festival (lovingly dubbed The Ultimate Lady Hang), with an “in-the-round” wherein each brought songs, original and not, arranged for solo, duo and group settings. It was good. So good, that this was repeated for the Labor Day campfire. festival bringing Holly McGarry of Honeysuckle and Deni Hlavinka of The Western Den into the rotation for the round. This year, Rachel is joined by some fabulously talented friends…Emily Haviland, Kimaya Diggs and Wallace Field.

Opportunities to Learn
I’m excited to announce that I am returning to teaching! After a nearly four-year hiatus, I was asked to return to Club Passim’s School of Music and jump back into vocal harmony classes. I’ve completely revamped the curriculum and am very excited to get back to it. We will be having 3 guest instructors and the first one has been announced: George Clements of The Clements Brothers. Follow me on instagram to find out who the next two are!

6 Classes | Thursdays at 8:00PM | Club Passim, Cambridge, MA
October 31 - December 5
Class Description:
Do you love singing? Have you ever listened to the tight harmonies of a great bluegrass band or a classic Americana/folk duet and thought, “how do they do that?!” We’ll show you! Join Emily for an exploration of two- and three-part harmony singing! Students who join this class should feel comfortable singing a melody; knowledge of music theory and harmony singing experience are helpful but not necessary. We will focus on building vocal strength and confidence, pitch accuracy, blending with others, and the music theory behind finding your own harmonies by ear.”
What You Will Leave With:
Higher understanding of music theory
Historical context of songs
6 - 8 songs w/three parts, including sheet music & recordings
Community & a good hang!
