Upcoming Show on Halloween

My Friends!

I hope that you are all having a season that is full of exactly what you need right now, whether it be a season of rest, a season of activities, or a combination of all of the above! I am currently finding myself in a season of both rest and also of preparation for the winter both at the BSO and in my freelance career. I want to keep this relatively short this month, so here are some of my announcements/thoughts in bullet-point for y’all to plow through:

  1. Upcoming SHOW at the Parlor Room | Northampton, MA | Tues, Oct 31 at 7:30PM. I will be opening for some swell fellows: John Raymond & S. Carey "Shadowlands" and it’s going to be an absolute blast! Tickets are still available.

  2. For those of you local to the Greater Boston area, the “Not Who You Think” album release show has been SET for February 14, 2024 at Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. Mark your calendars and get your Valentine’s Day date set (a partner, a friend, a family member, if animals were allowed, I would support that, but alas, they are not), and tickets will go on sale in late November. I will be sure that you receive a ticket link! Tour dates throughout the Northeast will be posted shortly thereafter and I plan to visit CT, ME, NH, and RI. If you know of any house concert series in those states, please pass them my way! OR if you think that you own a home that would be a great spot for a concert, that’s great too!

  3. Non-Musical Thoughts: As some of you know, I have been on a journey for about seven years or so of spiritual and faith deconstruction, as I think many ex-evangelicals are in this region of the country. Many of you in my life are on similar journeys, and I would love to share some tools that I have recently found to be extremely helpful:

    • Anything written by Brene Brown. My dear mother, who is a chaplain, suggested her works to me first and because I still have the stubbornness of a teenager in the depths of my heart, it took me about a year to open up the book that she gave me. I’m currently reading “The Gifts of Imperfection” and it’s wonderful!

    • I’ve joined a wonderful women’s only online spiritual community called “The Heart Space”. It’s been an extremely lifegiving experience thus far, and I’ve been told that they are opening up some slots on November 1st! This is a great space if you are missing the church-community vibe, but are not wanting to be a part of Anglo-Christian space. THE HEART SPACE

Thinking of you all during these hard times of war, gun violence, and the continuation of various inequities towards minority populations. It is hard to have hope in these times, but I encourage you all to find space to contemplate how you may be of service to our local communities and how you can welcome those that may be struggling into your heart.

Blessings & Love,

Emily Haviland
